More than $400,000 from Community Support to Benefit Warwick Healthcare Campus Patients and Residents

Bon Secours Warwick Health Foundation Raises Funds to Promote Local Access to Advanced Healthcare

news item
Warwick, NY (December 16, 2016) – Warwick area residents place a premium on local access to advanced healthcare. And they "walk the walk" by supporting the Bon Secours Warwick Foundation's efforts to expand and enhance the programs and services at St. Anthony Community Hospital and the adult and rehabilitation facilities, Mount Alverno Center and Schervier Pavilion.

As a result of donations from patients, local residents and area businesses, it has been possible for the Foundation to disburse $417,000 to refurbish facilities and upgrade equipment and technology on the Warwick Healthcare Campus. The money also will be used to certify nurses in several specialties, for example, trauma, critical care, the operating room and other important disciplines.

Funds were generated through the Foundation's annual Golf and Tennis Classic, Winding through Warwick, the June Tent Party, direct mail appeals and other fundraising initiatives.

Funding of nursing certification ensures that patients will continue to receive care that is grounded in the most current, evidenced-based best practices.

"Certification follows stringent guidelines and reflects mastery of clinical knowledge within a nursing specialty. We are proud that our caregivers have met, and in many cases, exceeded those requirements," said Judy Lindberg, vice president of Patient Services at St. Anthony Community Hospital.

The hospital's new SonoSite Ultrasound System helps physicians efficiently locate vessels during procedures, and it facilities the expeditious diagnosis of a range of diseases so patients can begin to receive treatment faster than in the past. The purchase of additional equipment and supplies will improve efficiencies in patient care in orthopedic surgery. And new Physical Therapy equipment will help community members requiring rehabilitation regain strength and achieve desired therapy results.

Improvements also were made to the exterior and interior of the hospital. The exterior was resided and a portion of the roof was replaced, and the lobby has a new look with new furniture and flooring, a fresh coat of paint and new artwork. The space is now welcoming and comfortable for patients, visitors and staff. As well, the Intensive Care Unit at St. Anthony's will have fully-renovated bathrooms, improving patients' experiences on that unit.

"As our community's health needs evolve, we remain committed to providing the highest quality of care," said Lindberg. "These enhancements help bring our families, friends and neighbors advanced care, close to home."

Warwick Health Foundation Chair Raul Berina said, "Community support is key to ensuring local access to state-of-the-art care. There are many ways area residents may participate, from joining committees to coming to our events to making financial donations. We welcome the community to join our efforts."
