news item

SUFFERN, N.Y. (February 4, 2019) – Good Samaritan Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Health Network (WMCHealth), is one of only two hospitals in Orange and Rockland counties, to receive the 2018 and 2019 Five-Star rating for Coronary Intervention, along with the Coronary Intervention Excellence Award.

Healthgrades is the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.  Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare-patient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute-care hospitals nationwide, assessing hospital performance relative to 34 common conditions and procedures. This five-star rating indicates Good Samaritan Hospital's clinical outcomes are significantly better than national averages when treating the condition or performing the procedure being evaluated.

Arvind Agarwal, MD and Cary Hirsch, MD, FACC, co-directors of the Active International Cardiovascular Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital, with the Coronary Intervention team celebrate the Healthgrades award.

"These outstanding ratings from Healthgrades for the care we deliver to our cardiac patients are reflective of the caliber of our staff and the expertise they provide day in and day out," said Cary Hirsch, MD, FACC, Co-Director of the Active International Cardiovascular Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital. "Our program is the only one in the region to deliver advanced skill, knowledge and the latest technology. We are proud to provide outstanding quality care for our community."

"With so many choices for care, patients often find that their health journey can be difficult to navigate," said Arvind Agarwal, MD, Co-Director of the Active International Cardiovascular Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital. "Information about hospital quality is helpful as patients make decisions for their health, and our coronary intervention team has distinguished itself as an exceptional program. Our care providers continue to raise the bar for patient safety, clinical excellence, and positive patient outcomes each day, ensuring our patients receive incomparable, coordinated care from our multi-specialist team."

Among the comprehensive services offered at Good Samaritan Hospital's Active International Cardiovascular Institute are elective and emergency angioplasty, advanced cardiac testing and rehabilitation, electrophysiology, implantable pacemakers and a variety of cardiology and educational services.

Our collaboration with the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) provides a tremendous opportunity for The Active International Cardiovascular Institute to deliver excellent medical care to the residents of this region. The relationship has brought advanced therapies to local residents, including the formation of a Heart Failure Program; four highly-skilled, board-certified heart-failure specialists from the nationally renowned WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute see patients at Good Samaritan Hospital. The new Heart Failure Program physicians work with referring doctors to optimize care of patients with advanced heart failure and, when needed, rapidly evaluate them for life-saving therapies such as mechanical circulatory support and heart transplantation.
